It was raining cats and dogs or better put, Bobcats and Bulldogs. The band dismissed after two hours of rain delays and lightening strikes. The all clear was given shortly after 8:30 but was quickly canceled after more lightening. The game is rescheduled for Saturday but the last word said the band would not be performing.

WELCOME to all the returning upperclassmen and to all the new freshmen joining the ranks of the elite “McHI BULLDOG MARCHING BAND”.
We hope you are having a great summer and are looking forward to a great year at McHi in 2010-2011. We had a fantastic year at McHi last year and are excited about a new year of greater achievements.
It is very important that ALL BAND STUDENTS ATTEND OUR SUMMER BAND CAMP. If you are working this summer, please arrange your schedule NOW so that you won’t miss these important rehearsals.
“Angels in the Architecture” is the theme for this year’s show. This selection, composed by Frank Ticheli, is fast becoming one of the most important new works written for concert band. We really believe that this selection will be a great showcase of our superior band program. Everyone has been given music to the first movement, which will be performed at our first football game, so make sure that you have practiced it. Check our website (mchiband.com) for the other movements of our show. Freshmen have been given a copy of the McHi Alma Mater, Fight Song and National Emblem, which will have to be memorized for the football season. We will start with the Pigskin marching drill on approximately August 3rd.
The McAllen High School Band has a long standing tradition of excellence. In the 60′s, under the direction of L.M. Snavely, the McHi band was selected as the Texas TMEA 4-A Honor Band. During the 70′s, the McHi band continued a string of Sweepstakes Awards with Gary Zook as head band director. McAllen High School split into two high schools in 1980 with Darrell Anderson becoming the head band director in 1981. Sweepstakes Awards continued starting in 1982 until a third high school opened in 1992. During this time the McHi band performed opening day at the World’s Fair in New Orleans in 1983, Texas State UIL Marching Contest, Area Marching Contest, Florida’s Disney World five times and won the New Orleans Ovation Band Festival in 2001. The McHi band continues to grow in the 2000′s with a bright future.
If you are a member of a McAllen middle school band program and will be attending McAllen High School, we would love for you to become a part of the McHi tradition. Band activities begin in late July. For more information, contact the band office at (956) 632-3170.
